Non-Abelian Meissner Effect in Yang–Mills Theories at Weak Coupling
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a weak-coupling Yang–Mills model supporting non-Abelian magnetic flux tubes and non-Abelian confined magnetic monopoles. In the dual description the magnetic flux tubes are prototypes of the QCD strings. Dualizing the confined magnetic monopoles we get gluelumps which convert a “QCD string” in the excited state to that in the ground state. Introducing a mass parameter m we discover a phase transition between the Abelian and non-Abelian confinement at a critical value m = m∗ ∼ Λ. Underlying dynamics are governed by a ZN symmetry inherent to the model under consideration. At m > m∗ the ZN symmetry is spontaneously broken, resulting in N degenerate ZN (Abelian) strings. At m < m∗ the ZN symmetry is restored, the degeneracy is lifted, and the strings become non-Abelian. We calculate tensions of the non-Abelian strings, as well as the decay rates of the metastable strings, at N ≫ 1.

A Comment on Duality in N=1 Supersymmetric Non-Abelian Gauge Theories
Recently N. Seiberg has shown that certain N = 1 supersymmetric Yang – Mills theories have the property that their infrared physics can be equivalently described by two different gauge theories, with the strong coupling region of one corresponding to the weak coupling region of the other. This duality leads to interesting results about the infrared dynamics of these theories. We generalize Seib...
متن کاملEffect of the Haar measure on the finite temperature effective potential of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory
Including the Haar measure we show that the effective potential of the regularized SU(2) Yang-Mills theory has a minimum at vanishing Wilsonline W = 0 for strong coupling, whereas it develops two degenerate minima close to W = ±1 for weak coupling. This suggests that the non-abelian character of SU(2) as contained in the Haar measure might be responsible for confinement. PACS number(s): 11.15.T...
متن کاملPhase Transition in Yang - Mills Theory For
We infer the existence of a phase transition in pure non-Abelian gauge theories at zero temperature for 0 near IT. Our analysis assumes that instantons are responsible for the onset of the deviation from perturbative behavior in the theory. We show that this leads to a ._ weak coupling zero of the E-function for 8 near IT, implying the loss of confinement. Submitted to Physical Review D (Commen...
متن کاملNon-Abelian Strong-Weak Coupling Duality in (String-Derived) N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theories
We study strong-weak coupling duality (S-duality) in N=4 supersymmetric nonAbelian Yang-Mills theories. These theories arise naturally as the low-energy limit of four-dimensional toroidal compactifications of the heterotic string. Firstly, we define the free energy in the presence of electric and magnetic fluxes using ’t Hooft’s prescription, i.e. through functional integrals at finite volume i...
متن کاملDual superconductivity , monopole condensation and confining string in low - energy Yang - Mills theory . Part
We show that the QCD vacuum (without dynamical quarks) is a dual supercon-ductor at least in the low-energy region in the sense that monopole condensation does really occur. In fact, we derive the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory (i.e., dual Abelian Higgs model) directly from the SU(2) Yang-Mills theory by adopting the maximal Abelian gauge. The dual superconductor can be on the border between type ...
